FIVE POINT STRIKE
ABOUT
Five Point Strike was a final project for my 2nd year of college. Our task was to create a vertical slice of a 2D platformer in any style. I wanted to make a pixel art game and it became a small fan project for Akali from League of Legends, a MOBA by Riot Games. She's one of my favourite characters so turning her into a 2D protagonist seemed like a fun challenge. Here is the Design Document if you'd like to learn more. This uses the old UI designs I had made as a trial run.
DEVELOPMENT
I was tasked with programming the prototype in Unity and I also had to make all the assets and animations. A lot of the scenery assets are based on a cinematic by Riot but all the creature designs and interactable assets I created myself. The character is also Riot Games' property but I took my own spin on it with the pixel design.
All of the UI assets were created by me, I took inspiration from Hollow Knight, by Team Cherry. I tried to visualise their style more simplistically and to fit my game/ needs.

DESIGN RATIONALE
DESIGN
My design choices were primarily guided by considerations of colour and contrast. I aimed to ensure that the UI would prominently distinguish itself from the game environment. To achieve this, I opted for a bright colour palette, featuring white as the dominant colour, while the game's visual elements predominantly incorporated shades of red and pink. In addition, I strategically used purple to represent hazards in the game, which served to enhance clarity and visibility, for example, this made enemies distinctly stand out against the overall game environment.
